Victoria Turnbull

Victoria is the North Regional Programme Manager for UpRising. She joined UpRising following her role as Deputy Director of, a national, award-winning arts charity that increases the social mobility and employability of emerging creatives through high-profile career opportunities. Including a recognised biennial festival of emerging creative talent, curated by leading figureheads from the creative industries (Brian Eno, Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, Dame Zaha Hadid, Wayne Hemingway...) and promoted across the media (BBC Radio1, Sunday Times…). To date the NOISE festivals have generated an audience of 800 million.

She worked on a wide-range of youth engagement projects such as a ground-breaking BBC Radio 5Live documentary on Youth Unemployment; a feature-length TV programme documenting the life of young Gypsy and Travellers, where she worked with the group to achieve an Arts Award; NOISELAB “street university”, one of the UK’s largest pop-up shop projects on Manchester’s high street, attracting 42,000 visitors in one year and a number of creative career events and exhibitions at key locations including London’s Southbank, Downing Street, House of Commons, Liverpool Biennial, Manchester Town Hall, People’s History Museum and Brick Lane. Victoria also managed the recent website re-design to enable young people to record and market their skills and achievements through innovative ePortfolios and worked closely with advertising giants Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Publicis to develop unique projects for the charity’s most recent NOISE Festival 2014.

A frequent guest speaker and panellist, Victoria has a passion for developing far-reaching opportunities through the power of non-formal learning, to reverse the poverty of ambition and propel untapped talent. Including a keen interest in harnessing social media and new technologies to mobilise and promote the achievements of young people.

A Yorkshire lass, Victoria migrated to the other side of the Pennines where she studied Media Production at Salford University and is currently studying for an MA in Production Management. She’s also a graduate of the Cultural Leadership Programme’s “Leadership Unleashed” and Victoria’s accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management. Out of hours Victoria is a freelance music journalist, DJ and presents an online weekly radio show that she co-founded in Manchester.
